Squads

Our Squad system

We follow a progressive squad system like most clubs, and swimmers joining at around the 7-8 year old mark would typically start in the Intro squads where strokes are worked on, progressing on through to our Development squad, with more focus on technique and stamina, and then on to the Intermediates where speed begins to be key. Intermediates also require demanding times and stroke work, before finally moving them to our Senior squads for stronger faster and longer drills, competitive turns and dives, strength and stamina training and a land training programme.

All of our squads are encouraged to enter into our own Meet programme to get them used to competing and many of our swimmers are also expected and required to swim for the club at inter club galas and league meets. We run a calendar of home and away meets again that are selected as suitable for our swimmers and hope that everyone takes the opportunity to swim away from the home pool when possible as this is very good experience.

We have also run an annual overnight swim camp for our swimmers for many years and seek to do so usually at the start of the year to ready them for the competitive season, as well as to foster team spirit and give them a different swimmer experience. Information about this will be sent out to squads when applicable.
